Running Wild

Yay!  It’s my birthday on Monday and I got a pretty stinkin cute running package in the mail from my parents.

How cute is the running wild shirt? I love it.  Also it’s all from Old Navy, which I have to admit surprises me a bit because it all fits well, is super cute, and inexpensive.  Major score.

Now I will be awfully put together for my birthday run 🙂

I went on a 5 mile run this evening at an easy pace.  I had it in my head that I would do a tempo run, but it just didn’t feel right once I got out there. I think it’s ok to listen to my body even if it means not always following my training plan exactly.

When I got back I decided I also needed to listen to my body and have my favorite dinner that I eat at least once a week.  A burrito bowl from Whole Foods!! They are the best thing ever.  They always start out looking so nice and put together like this:

But then I go ahead and mess them up and eat them with chips kinda like a huge dip.  It’s ridiculous and probably pretty unhealthy once all the chips get involved but I just simply do not care!

Do you always follow your training run exactly? Even when you aren’t feeling the exact design?

First of all I LOVE Brooks, especially their Pure line.  But also how can you not love their motto?  Every time I see the Run Happy logo, it in fact makes me happy and want to go for a run!

I saw this version of their ad in Runner’s World and it put a big old silly grin on my face.  Also, I’m thinking, what exactly is my run happy?  The perfect scenario…..

Track Day

 I saw this online and it made me happy.  If ever discouraged it’s good to remember just getting out there is the most important thing and often leads to a great run and a better day after!

Today I did a track workout.  I do have a goal to speed up a bit so I feel I have to.  I go back and forth about if I like these, and today I did.  I did a warm-up, then 5×800 meter repeats around 6:45 pace, then a cool down and some stretching.

Stretching is one of my goals for the year as I am not great at keeping up with it!  And today the run felt absolutely wonderful.  I used my Brooks Pure Connect for the track work out.  They’re a little lighter and a good fit for the track.

I also worked on this today, I am really seriously into succulents lately, clearly.

This is what I ate for breakfast and eat some version of almost every single day of my life.

I’m completely obsessed.

It’s yogurt, strawberries, blueberries, a banana, honey, and granola.  I also often add grape nuts, and vary the fruit.  The yogurt doesn’t change much, always some kind of organic low fat variety of regular or Greek yogurt.  It looks ridiculous but it is seriously sooooo good!

Seattle Wrap-up

Seattle was a wonderful and fantastic experience.  I got to see friends and family and spend a little time back home.

My best friend Pam took to Lola for brunch and we had these:

They are made to order doughnuts with vanilla mascarpone and strawberry jam, and they are AMAZING.  This is the 2nd Seattle trip in a row we’ve had these and I do believe it is now a tradition.

 We went up to her husband’s office and saw some killer views of Seattle and Puget Sound, sorry my phone case was a little aggressive in the reflections.

I also got to see Addie and her adorable little baby Sam.  We are waving at you!

This is the kind of incredible treatment extended by Jonathon and Margot that we were staying with.  They have an awesome Nespresso machine and served it up with chocolate, so delicious and generous!

Then on Sunday we went to my parent’s house and they made us dinner and got me my favorite Dairy Queen ice-cream cake!! It is absolutely the best thing in the entire world.

Also still haven’t gone on the ferris wheel in Seattle but it is so pretty and it is majorly on the to-do list for the next trip.

We got back tonight and I ran an easy 7 miles, with a few little side ache moments that I grudgingly got through.  Then I made this, risotto with some veggies, and a little curry and parmesan and it was perfect.  Also a little side of garlic sautéed spinach 🙂

Seattle!

Yay back to Seattle for the weekend!  I love the crisp air and yes, I LOVE the clouds.  I know, it’s not normal.  And actually it’s been sunny most of the time we’ve been here.  I feel ripped off.  Here’s the view from the Link Rail on the way into the city from the airport.

We met up first with some friends from the bay area who moved up here, and then also met up with my best friend who moved in next door to me when we were in 6th grade, and her husband.  (Next door where we grew up equaled through the forest.)  

We had yummy dinner at a brewery that had more than one kind of veggie burger!  Here’s the ladies:

Then we went to a bar that had a separate little bar upstairs called the butterfly bar.  It was so cool.

Thursdays tempo run was fine but not my best showing at all.  And I haven’t run yet here but I’m hoping to do a quick one tomorrow morning!  It’s always hard on vacation to do that.  Happy Saturday!

Mini Gnocchi and and Tempo Runs

Yesterday I went on an easy 5 mile run during which I got a side ache.  Ugh.  Today I’m planning to do a 6 mile tempo run.  Fingers Crossed!  After my run I made this:

I LOVE Italian food.  And this is so easy!! I got mini gnocchi’s from Cost Plus, they have the best kinds there (including truffle gnocchi. Drool).  Then I always add a little somethin to some store bought pasta sauce, in this case, a little extra olive oil, garlic, basil, and pepper.

Seriously Trader Joe’s frozen Basil and garlic in the little cubes is pretty much the most amazing thing ever.  No chopping or washing! They look like this:

Then of course some parmesan cheese on top.

Then last night we went to the opening night of the San Francisco Ballet. It was so gorgeous and so much fun.  I have never been to the ballet and it was actually even more beautiful than I even expected.  Here we are fancy.

I hope to go back sometime.  Ballerinas (and what are the male dancers called? I like ballerinos) are such completely amazing humans.  I don’t get it.  It’s amazing.

I Love tempo runs, do you? (Also helps to do them the more I tell myself I love them :))

What a Lovely Day for a Run!

Sunday was SUCH a beautiful day and luckily the NFC game between the Seahawks and the 49ers wasn’t until 3:30 so I got to enjoy all of the sunshine!

ImageI decided to do a nice long 10 mile run, as Sunday is the traditional long run day after all.  I’ve been experimenting with what to eat before I run to see what works the best for me.  On Sunday I tried these little guys which are basically fruit snacks. Yum! I’m still undecided about what I think about them for actual running purposes, but taste-wise they’re delish! (I need to fix my nails, don’t mind the cracking.)

I also tried this gel halfway through the run.  I previously have used GU and have read a lot of people complaining that it makes their stomach hurt so again I’m giving it a shot!  This was the first time I’ve had this kind of gel and it WAS SO GOOD!  The first ingredient is honey and it really just tastes like you’re eating honey.  I mean, yes.

I’m obsessed with running shoes and I have a few that I am completely obsessed with.  These are my Brooks Pure Flow.  I really like the Pure line and these have a little more cushion for the pushin and are for neutral runners.  I use these on my longer runs.  Plus they’re cute!

I was very happy and refreshed pre-run and sweatiness.  Not so much after.

When I got home I had some Raw Meal, which tastes less than ideal but is sooooo good for you.  I drank that as fast as possible so I could get to this:

Oh yeah.  Vegetarian really isn’t so bad people!! You can’t see it but this sandwich is also covered in pesto and black pepper mayo.  IT’S AMAZING.

Here’s the break down of my run that day.  I’m not “fast” or “slow” as I’ve seen compared to others speed-wise, I seem to fall somewhere in the middle, but I am hoping to work on my speed this year!

I spent the rest of the day watching the game and cheering for the Seahawks (my hometown) in a house FULL of 49ers fans.  In case you didn’t know, the Seahawks won.  It was awkward.  But we all ate an amazing taco bar and had a lot of fun!
