Taper Week

In honor of having just watched the last episode of The Walking Dead, this is quite hilarious.  (Yes I love that show, no judgement).  I love Brooks, they are so creative and funny!

It’s my taper week before the Rock n’ Roll SF half this Sunday.  So I am being very lazy and eating lots of carbs.  It’s my favorite week.  I didn’t run at all Monday or Tuesday, and ran a really slow 4 miles last night.  I have so much more time without planning out and doing runs!  Also it creates less laundry and I don’t have to worry about what I eat before running possibly hurting my tummy, so I can eat everything all the time!  There’s lots of perks!  But, I also wouldn’t stop running for anything.  It’s my favorite thing ever.

I am getting very excited about the expo this weekend.  I am going with a friend of mine because I told her there’s free samples and we would go to lunch after, and who doesn’t love free stuff and lunch?  I mean I have to go out to lunch to get all my carbs obviously.

What do you eat before a race?  The day before? The morning of?  I always struggle with exactly the right combo.

  1. Good luck this weekend! I almost always have pasta with ground turkey and tomato sauce the night before a race. The morning-I typical eat a lot! I have my usual oatmeal with almonds and banana, and maybe an egg and protein bar. I drink juice or milk and green tea 🙂 Sometimes nerves get to me though so it’s hard for me to eat and I like to have a protein shake handy just in case!

    • Thank you so much!! I am pretty excited. I usually do a pasta type thing as well, but I’m waiting for some kind of perfect meal that is great the next day, and I’m just not sure I’ve found it yet! How early do you eat before your race? I would love to eat all that but I think I’d have to start at 1 or 2 am! However, I think the amount would probably make me more energized by the time I get to that ominous mile 10 or 11.

      • I actually try to eat about an hour before I actually race! I don’t think this is typical though because sometimes it can make people nauseous to eat so close to running. But I get SO hungry during races and long runs if I leave too much time between eating and running.

      • You are amazing!! I am quite jealous of your stomach. There is no way I could eat that close to a race, or even just a regular run. That is so nice because that fuel is really in your system when you run. I bet you are an incredible runner!

      • Ha I wish, but I am getting better! The fuel does help, if I’m empty I’m a worthless runner! Some people use gels and sport candy during a run and THOSE tear up my stomach! I run with dried fruit-I used dried mandarins recently-and I don’t have a problem at all. If you feel like you could use a little extra boost, that would be my suggestion 🙂
