I Guess I Better Carbo Load!

What better way to eat carbs than an insanely good dinner out at one of my favorite Italian restaurants.  I finally remembered to take a photo of how happy food makes me before I have demolished what’s been put in front of me, and even of the food before I scarfed it!!  (Not pictured, the 2 baskets of warm bread that we ate through, yes that makes 1 complete basket each, they came with yummy dipping sauce and we had to put burrata on it obviously, so it was out of our hands!)  photo 4-5

Check this tomato out!  I mean could it be any more beautiful?  It is a 4 hour tomato, meaning that is how long they cooked it.  It’s on top of pesto, burrata, and olive oil, and of course was promptly smothered over the top of some warm bread.

As crazy amazing as that tomato combo was, this gnocchi was actually the best.  It was the perfect consistency and they sautéed it, you could see the lightly browned edges.  I’ve never heard of doing that, and it was amazing.  Once again I just really want to try making gnocchi from scratch I just love it so much.photo 2-8

Sorry salad.  By yourself you would’ve been great, made of local baby gems which I love, parmesan, and homemade croutons, but when eaten in conjunction with the above amazingness, you were quite outplayed.  It’s not your fault, you had no chance!

I’ve had a really busy and stressful week and I am so excited to go join my fellow runners for a fun half marathon adventure through the city this weekend, and sleep a lot.

Festa Della Donna

I ran pretty hard on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and I was feeling it a bit, so I decided to give myself Friday and Saturday off.  It was exactly what I needed and I did some fun stuff during the little break!

On Friday night I got take-out from a place called Boo Koo that has Asian street food.  It’s one of my favorite spots and I think they have the absolute best Pad Thai, as seen below:

Yum.  I could eat that again right now.

On Saturday we went on a hike to Alpine Lake which also has a very impressive dam.  It’s nice to see it flowing strong after all the rain we’ve had!

On the way back from the hike, something caught our eye and we had to pull over to see what it was.  It was in fact a guy getting ready to paraglide off the side of the mountain.  He just jumped off!  It seemed to make no sense how he would do this but he literally just took a few steps and he was off the ground and away heading down toward Stinson Beach.  It was one of the coolest things I’ve seen.  Talk about right place at the right time.

On Saturday we met up with some friends for dinner at an amazing restaurant called A16. They’re really well known for their Burrata and we didn’t want to let them down so we had to start with an order.photo 4-4

Also it turns out it was Festa Della Donna on Saturday which basically means Women’s Day.  We didn’t know until they told us at the restaurant why their wine list was specializing in women of wine.  After finding this out, I made sure to celebrate the day by kicking major tush at bowling and beating the boys at the last second for the win!!

Also you’ll notice after the strike when I realized I might win, I hit a gutter ball.  I got nervous.

I finished the weekend strong with an 8.5 mile run and some hearty pasta for dinner.  Looking forward to a productive week!

Yoga Instead

Yay the March Runner’s World is out! That means it’s almost spring right?

Well even here is Nor Cal it has finally shown a sign of winter with some much needed rain, but then again maybe it’s just spring showers!

Anyways, I am loving this issue because they have 2 very important topics for me, one is an article all about side aches! I am reading these very closely:

And the other is an article all about how coffee is actually kinda good for you! Hooray! Although it references a few times how you have to have 3 or 4 cups a day for the effects….. even I don’t drink that much.  But it is still a good start for me to justify my continued coffee drinking :).

I decided today to skip my scheduled run and go to yoga.  I was feeling a little sore and a few muscles were a little tight and yoga was just the thing I needed.  Back to runs tomorrow!

After I made a sauce from scratch that I make now and then, and I totally meant to take a picture of the process but was hungry and forgot.  So I’ll explain and show the finished product, although I just don’t think it will have quite the same effect!

I make “pesto” that sort of tastes like pesto but is really just vegetables and really healthy.  So I use a bunch of tomatoes.  In this case like 8 or 9 of these:

And a bunch of spinach, almonds, garlic, basil, salt, pepper, olive oil, and a little parmesan and throw it in a blender.  If you add plenty of basil and garlic it really will taste like pesto! Plus the spinach makes it green and once blended, it really just looks like pesto, here’s my proof!

I cook it on low for 10-15 to get the flavors from the garlic, etc. out and then add it to pasta!  It’s totally healthy, tastes super scrumptious and hit the spot tonight.

Anyone else have a go to cure for a day that you’re just too sore/tired/tight to do your run?
